Instagram now has 1 million advertisers, will launch business booking tool this year

Instagram announced on Wednesday that it now has 1 million businesses advertising monthly across the photo-sharing app, a 400 percent increase from a year ago. With brands seeing more potential in the creative service, the Facebook-owned company said it’s planning on doing more to help businesses convert sales. Included in the roadmap will be a tool allowing consumers to book appointments directly from Instagram profiles set to roll out “later this year.” More than 600 million people use Instagram worldwide and for various reasons. And while many are likely using it to share photos and videos with friends and followers, others are choosing to catch up with what their favorite brands are doing. Because a picture is worth a thousand words, users can get more out of seeing images of clothing, accessories, devices, locations, venues, and more versus reading about it. Underscoring this trend, Instagram said just within the past month, more than…

Advertisers prefer Instagram to Snapchat

Snapchat is used by over 150 million people, and its parent company just went public in an IPO that gave it a market cap of $ 25 billion. But it appears Snap might have some work to do in terms of convincing advertisers the platform is worth putting their money into. According to a series of studies published recently by RBC Capital Markets, in partnership with Ad Age magazine, advertisers and marketers are significantly less interested in spending money on Snapchat than they are in doing so with competing services like Instagram and Facebook. This reluctance appears to stem from a lack of return…

I’m starting to love Instagram Stories more than Snapchat because I’m incredibly thirsty

Instagram and Snapchat are basically the same thing now, with one major difference: Everyone you know is on the first, and not the second.  SEE ALSO: Hillary Clinton Snapchats an empowering video, but the internet only cares about her new haircut I know, Snapchat is cool—the superior offering, really—but it’s true. Instagram, quickly becoming the dad-rock of social media, has 300 million daily users versus 158 million on Snapchat. I didn’t think this mattered until Snapchat shot itself in the foot with a small but significant update recently. It’s all to do with Stories, which work similarly on each platform. Basically, you take a picture or short video and post it under your profile, where your followers—all of them, or a select group, depending on your settings—can watch it for a span of 24 hours.  Read more… More about Social Media, Instagram Stories, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook Social Media

Instagram Stories get ‘early version’ geostickers starting in New York City and Jakarta

Instagram has launched an “early version” of a new form of stickers centered around your location. Available through Instagram Stories, these geostickers are customized graphics made specifically for the city you’re in and are now available in New York City and Jakarta. When you’re in one of the two supported cities, these geostickers can be added by tapping a sticker icon in the top right-hand part of the screen. More than a dozen new stickers have been created for New York City and Jakarta and will appear based on where you are, be it by specific neighborhood or landmark. According to Instagram, “each one is designed to match the vibe of the location it represents.” Geostickers function similarly to normal stickers within Instagram Stories, meaning you can add as many as you want, adjust their sizing and placement, and mix and match with any other creative style you want.
